'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?'
'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

From Above

Some oils I've done...  aiming to capture some essence of New Zealand hills.  I think I've succeeded.
Thank you J and M for the flights.  Without them no muse. Thank you also for convincing me for a while that I was the one doing the favour for you!
We...
" flung our eager craft through footless halls of air. We’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew."
- John Gillespie Magee

  1. I particularly like the first one - the pleated hills remind me of the folding surface texture of the human brain.

  2. Hmmm, hadn't thought about that YP, but some I've done do look like parts of the body... armpits and ... things.

  3. Beautiful smooth green brown surfaces on these blanket like New Zealand hills. Thanks for sharing your creative interpretation of these from above views <3

  7. Thanks for the excerpt from Magee's poem, "High Flight" -- the poem has been a favorite of mine ever since our President Ronald Reagan quoted from it ("reached out and touched the face of God") at the time of the Challenger disaster.

  8. Gorgeous paintings.

I love your work Katherine, you did a beautiful job. I love the tiles too. Oh, I wish I had the time to get into an art class. Maybe this next year...

  11. I love them too! My favourite is the middle one.

When we were on holiday just now we went to Montsegur, and from the top we had the furthest view I've ever seen from land. The bands of colours and shadows were just like your picture.

  12. The middle one's my favourite, too - I want to set off walking!

  13. Just goes to show that art is subjective, because my favourite is the third one! The others don't really do anything for me, but that one is really charming.

Or it could just show what I know about art, which isn't much.

    LOL!

  14. I think it is interesting how the variation in contrast between the paintings of light and shade has such an impact on the mood of the each painting - the lighter constrasts making the painting more atmospheric in the middle painting and making the image in the top painting very strong and bold - great work.

  15. Interesting. I'm not sure I can come to terms with the first one but the last two are very much to my liking and just as I see them from the air.
