'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?'
'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Yellow Lab

Here is the pet shop and my little table and chair that I bring in each day.

The 'yellow lab' cichlid which was begun here, continues apace.  Just a couple of fins to do now.  As I did for the Blue Ram, I completed the whole picture with white conte chalk first (a tonal painting), and then worked over the top with colored pencil, carefully trying to avoid lifting off too much of the chalk.  The white under the pencil brightens the colors and gives the highlights vibrancy.

Some images of progress:

A little girl asked me what I was going to do next week.  I asked her what would she like me to do.  This was her choice:

After carefully reading my little poster, she announced that the only afternoon she could come in and see how it was going would be Wednesday, as she had tap on Monday and jazz on Tuesday.
Like her, this fish looks like it dances well...

  3. Really impressive! wow. I haven't seen your blog before - just got here via GB.

By the way I see your weather is not much different from ours! I don't think I could stand the depression of having a weather forecast on my blog right at this moment! :)

    1. Thank you Jenny... welcome to TLVD.
I have just popped over to your blog... What a lovely collection of 'Alice' information. I will return.

I have a weather icon thingy so people realize it's not ALWAYS gorgeous weather here... (but slightly smugly, I can reveal it usually is!)

  4. I don't know fish paintings but I know what I like.

    I like.

But just when I thought you were going to become world-famous as "the New Zealand godwit lady" you turn your attention to ichthyology....

    1. Robert, the Godwit Series is only on the back-burner temporarily. The fishy pet shop episode is just a flash in the pan. As if my plate wasn't already full! But I was lured in and fell for the shapes and colors, hook, line and sinker!

It was a bit of a half-baked idea, but it has served me well, as I'm getting a grilling from the public (especially the children) and it's honing my speaking and observation skills too.

  7. The little girl's certainly given you something to achieve next week that's for sure. I'm quite taken with your fishes I have to say. Perhaps it's something to do with having introduced fish to my garden pond recently.

    1. Geeb, she has chosen a hard one! Lots of color, pattern, tail and fin...But I'm up to the challenge! I might make it more side-on, so it goes with the others, tho.
