A Grand Number.

I notice that today is the occasion of my thousandth post.   Woo hoo!
To celebrate I have compiled this '1000' that incorporates a few images from posts over the years.

I also reproduce for the occasion, my very first post.  Although it was to be unusual in that it was not accompanied by an image, on the other hand it seems nothing much has changed in the nearly five years, as I'm still writing about things in my linen cupboard!

Post Christmas Clean-up

When I was in the supermarket doing the Christmas shopping last week I bought one of those dusters.  You know, one of those special synthetic cloths that are 'static' and 'magically' pick up dust. It even had a special plastic cover (so it didn't zoom into action when you didn't want it to?) with a little hole so you could "feel the special surface".  When I got home and as I was putting in in the hot water cupboard, I noticed that there were no fewer than five! (count 'em, 5!) others of similar ilk that I had purchased previously.  Why then do I still have such a dusty house!?!

  1. Congratulations! I feel a sudden urge to go check statistics. I've had too many blogs for it to be an easy job though.

  2. Whoa! Whoo-hoo! A thousand posts! That's a great achievement. I think you're a bit like me in that when I set out on the blogging "journey" I had no idea how long it would last and didn't really expect that after seven years I'd still be churning out posts. Just checked my "stats" and I see I have produced 1102 posts.... Here's to the next thousand!

  3. 'Tis a grand number indeed, and my heartiest congratulations to you!

Where else would I have learned about godwits and dwarf gouramis and Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty? Where else would I find such a splendid array of eye candy? Where else would I have come into possession of both a Maori phrasebook and a painting of grapes?

I raise a glass to you and several thousand more posts emanating from your little corner of Enzed-land.

  6. Thanks everyone.

I'm going away tomorrow to the end of the weekend, to farm-sit. May or may not be able to post while I'm away, but will certainly have some stories and pikkies when I get home. Catch ya then!

Oh and the shower's been leaking - majorly - under the wall and under the kitchen lino, and behind the kitchen unit and stove - major disaster zone! Lots of action with plumbers and builders here next week, plus a dinner party for seven.

Also forgot to mention I'm flying to Australia in three week's time too. Melbourne and Adelaide.

    Don't I have fun!?

  7. Well done Katherine. A fine effort. I going to have to do some looking back into your blogging history to see what they have covered, as I am a new reader of yours - Dave

  9. sorry I'm a bit late but Congratulations anyway. Quite an achievement. Isn't it great to read back over your posts and see how you've chroniciled your life over the last few years.
I have heard you can get your blog posts printed in a book and I used to think it was silly but I've come around to thinking I might quite like it. I certainly would hate to lose my blog and all the posts with it.
    Cheers
PS. That thousand is really clever. How did you do it?

    1. Helsie, please feel free to comment on any of those 1000 posts at any time!

My father (lovely man that he is) thinks my blog is just the bee's knees And that I should get it published. (Of course, he almost certainly hasn't read any of my readers' fabulous blogs!)

The thousand? Adobe Photoshop is my friend.
I collected a whole lot of screen shots off a random selection of my posts. Then I wrote a white '1000' in a nice fat font on a black page and kept that as a separate layer. Then I copied and pasted and shrunk all the little images all over the 1000 numerals, not worrying if they went over the edges a bit. If they overlapped, I made sure that the one I wanted in front was there. I rubbed out any bits I didn't want to overlap.
Then when all were in position I turned all the images into one layer.
Then I went back to the first '1000' layer and used the magic wand tool to select only the black background, transferred this selection to my images layer, and rubbed out all the edges that were hanging over.
Then the two layers were flattened together. Done.
