Typing and Painting

A friend has given us a couple of old typewriters and we have been having fun tapping away.  For some strange reason it's much easier for me to think using an old typewriter than on a computer keyboard.  This is not to excuse my absence from the world of blog.

I've also been painting.

Coincidentally these images put the two together.  Now that would be fun!

  1. Hello Kathy,
I find the top image of typewriter and emerging watercolour landscape fascinating. It says to me - can the written word roll out beauty, roll out art? The juxtaposition is jarring and slightly provocative.

  3. Ring ring... Harrow; where can I get one one of those typewriters? As a painter who doesn't really like painting, it would suit me just fine!

    1. Cro - I once heard a description of artists that went something like: 'people who prevaricate for ages until they can't put off the urge to make art"

  4. Sorry I've taken so long to comment. I've visited a few times. Hope your leg is mended now and you are getting around OK.
I find I can write much better if I can type ( on a computer). For some reason writing by hand just doesn't work. But painting??????????

    1. Thank you Helsie. My ankle is much better and I am not even limping any more. It is still a bit sore by the end of the day if I do too much, 'tho.

  5. I've got a typewriter in a plastic bag in the shed - I might get it out and amaze the kids with this magic machine out of the Ark. (they're 9 and 7 and I'm sure they've never seen one)

  7. Brian, yes, do! Or hold out a bit longer for a bigger effect. My chap is 27 in June and had never seen one :-)

An equally exciting moment was when my other chap (then aged nearly 4), saw the iron for the first time. (Yes, I managed to get away with not doing any for years). I can still see his eyes big and round and his remark "Wow! What's THAT!??!"

  8. That is definitely one of the most fascinating ideas I have seen for a long time. I think it's really fun too. The possibilities are endless.
