'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?'
'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Among the most intelligent of the dogs - if they can't find enough to do, Border collies amuse themselves ...

  4. Very catlike! I am enjoying teaching my pup everything he needs to know. He doesn't do " slowly slowly" though. When he sees our cat there is no subtlety involved…just a charge and lots of bouncing. The old cat does very well to mainly ignore him!

    1. Good on you Frances. Young pups need help to be easy adult dogs. Do you do your teaching the Cesar Milan way? What breed?

    2. He is a Mini schnauzer….mainly black and silver colouring, but with a" pepper and salt" head. He is 6 months old today. I have a variety of books and online info. and a friend who knows about dog behaviours and has helped me a bit too. Not used any Cesar Milan techniques as far as I know! He is a very quick learner, and as I am just about to put up the Xmas tree in the room he is mainly in, I am hoping he will learn to leave it alone asap! He was doing most of what I need him to do several months ago..ie come when called , which I always think is the main thing. Never had a pup before, my previous, and first dog was 5 when I had him. He was put to sleep in June aged about 16 having been loved dearly during his life with us. We call the pup " Alexi".

  5. Ah - lovely, lively little breed. I'm sure Alexi will give you great joy. My son and his partner have just bought a pup - at 12 weeks Toby is bigger than my full-grown Peke-Chin Shelly was. They will have fun too!

    1. Kirsten - They are my daughter's absolute favourite breed.
If you haven't seen it, perhaps you would enjoy the excellent BBC Horizon programme 'The Secret Life of the Dog'?
