Maddie Goes on an Outing

First to the beach near Pikowai, where the waves danced silver and there was not a soul in sight.

Then to my place to check the house and contemplate raking up the leaves.  I decided they look too nice where they are.

Then back to the farm in time for tea and to watch the sun slide down behind the hills.

Nice Day for It

Two neat people came for a visit, two beautiful sunny days, and two stunning sunsets: soft and cloudless.  Hard to believe it is May.

House Hen

To get to this room, this chook had to walk through the dining room, through the lounge, down the hall, turn right,  another ten metres down another hall, past three open rooms, and then turn right into the master bedroom.

Burn-Off

Almost from the start, the starlings have been investigating the chimney. Although there was some chicken wire around it, they were able to find a way in, and on the first day I had my first visitor. It was not able to be tempted out, even with all the curtains but one closed and the window open all day. By this morning there were three starlings, and it was amazing that Shane the chimney sweep was able to get the two live ones out without any damage to them other than panic. However I may have no need to light the fire tonight. On the farm next door they have lit the huge piles of trees that had been cut down some time ago, and I can feel the warmth from here in the lounge!

Each of the two piles are about 15 metres across.

From the Farmhouse Kitchen

... I can watch the sun go down. Not bad eh?

A Bird on a Stump

I placed it there from where it lay, gasping, under the window. Luckily the cat is too sleepy in the sun in the office to have seen it while it was vulnerable.

Just checked again, and the bird has flown.
