'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?'
'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Granny's Birthday

As you all know, Granny flew to Cairns last Thursday.  Here she is celebrating her birthday at a restaurant.  I'm sure that's a new top,  nice, very tropical.  And it may be just the photo, but she looks really brown already don't you think?  I've heard through the grapevine that she's having a really great time, but that she's finding it a bit muggy.

Guess how old she was.  Good guess.  But wrong.  She was eighty-nine.

  6. If I look like that at nearly 90 I'll be well chuffed. If I looked like that at 70 I'd be quite pleased in fact!

    2. Yes she really does Katherine. The top isn't quite my style and even though I'm more adventurous now that I was at any time before in my life I'm not quite that adventurous yet.

  8. Will Granny be meeting up with that hellraising, pleasure seeking, ICT teaching Cairns resident - Christmas Carol? They could paint the town red together while watching out for "muggers" as Carol says it's very "muggy" there at present. Wonder what you'll be doing when you are 89 Kate?

  9. I think Granny is probably going to stay up in the relative cool of the tablelands where her daughter and son-in-law now lives. She is probably putting her feet up every afternoon with a fan blowing the warm, moist air ('close' is I think the English equivalent) over her face.
When I'm 89, hmmm, I hope I'll be still able to jump on a plane and have an adventure like Granny. But more likely I'll be content to walk around the park or swim at the local pool each morning and spend my afternoons with my virtual reality headset on, 'walking' over the hills around the Lake District... What about you YP?

  10. Followers of this blog may wish to know that last year Granny passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, including the Cairns tablelands daughter. She was 93 and still living in her own apartment relatively independently.
