I loved Gothenburg. It was windy and a bit cold when I was there, but the town is beautiful and I loved wandering around with my son. We spent all day and saw not only where son's partner and son work (hospital and school, respectively) but also the 'Fish Church', the Iron fountain, the round hospital (now a teacher's training college) and lots of thrift shops.

I have recently watched a movie simply entitled "Lad". Produced in 2013, It's about a young Yorkshire boy coming to terms with the early death of his father. I really enjoyed it, not least for the amazing scenery and peek into a way of life I have been interested in for many years. Unfortunately I didn't get up to Yorkshire on my last visit to The World, but definitely next time!
The acting was excellent although a tiny little bit uneven in parts. The song at the end of the movie was perfect to finish up with, although it made me feel a little bit sad. I suppose the older one gets, the more likely one is to have someone close who has recently died... That's just the way it is, unless one has no friends, and who would want that state of affairs?

New Zealand, compared with many other inhabited parts of the world, is rather windy. Most of the two islands that make us up, sit between -36 and -46 degrees latitude, and the old name for anything between -40 and -50 degrees south of the equator was the 'Roaring Forties'. The worst bit is the gap between the two islands, Cook Strait. Unfortunately our capital city is very close by, and is nick-named 'Windy Wellington', or sometimes less politely, 'The Armpit of New Zealand'.
Of course out at sea the wind has nothing to deflect it, unlike when it passes over land. So it's usually much worse out there.
On my sweltering, bag-toting walk to the Københavns Hovedbanegård (Copenhagen Central Train Station), I passed by the spectacular Tycho Brahe planetarium. I took a break here because I was so hot and discovered that behind it was a wee piece of canal. Unfortunately it was rather full of algae because of the heat and lack of rain, but I had a few words of commiseration with a coot and a black-headed gull.
Further along the road a woman stopped me and asked if I knew where the station was, so we ended up walking together for the ten minutes. She was born in Germany, had a Phd in Anthropology from a prestigious North American university, and lived and lectured in New York. She loved to come back regularly and travel in Europe. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her, even though it was only briefly.
The station itself is a rather interesting building too.
