'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Summer

To Summer

...O thou who passest through our valleys in
Thy strength, curb thy fierce steeds, allay the heat
That flames from their large nostrils! Thou, O Summer,
Oft pitchest here thy golden tent, and oft
Beneath our oaks hast slept, while we beheld
With joy thy ruddy limbs and flourishing hair.

- William Blake

Painting by Uncle Ted.

  1. Hi,

Thanks for popping over to my blog. I like your photos - and I've just learnt a new thing for today: the weta. Never heard of it before. I must try to drop it into conversation one day. "Yes, it looks somewhat like the weta. What's a weta? Oh, it's only found in New Zealand, older than dinsosaurs ..."

My wife and I both enjoyed Pillars as did our son who was about 13 at the time. He wants to read the sequel and he will but some of the sex scenes are a bit graphic and coarse as I mentioned in my post. Oh well! he's 15 this month so...

  3. Do you wonder how Blake ever felt the real heat of summer over there?

  4. Hi there Dad, glad to give you a conversation-piece!
My lad got the sequel when he was 21, so I expect he could cope :-)

Grit - Hello! and welcome to TLVD! I'm glad you like my pics. I see you made it out in the car (or did you walk?) to the space centre and had a nice day.
If you are snowed in one time, and can't get out of the house, here are some ideas I thought up:

Idea for Shark: Find out all you can about Christmas Tree Worms. (That's a challenge as there's not a lot). You'll need to go online. Make some out of cellophane for your tank.

Idea for Tiger: read "Fungus the Bogieman" (Raymond Briggs) and then make dozens of paper snails and put them in your bed and sleep with them so you know what it feel like to be a bogieman. Except without the slime.

Idea for Squirrel: Watch "The Princess Bride" and then write an alternative to the scary bit where Westley is tortured.

Delwyn - apparently he lived in Sussex for three years...
