It is clear to me this cartoon was drawn by someone other-than-a-New Zealander, but I'm going to post it anyway... 'cos it made me smile.
PS. why do I know it wasn't done by a New Zealander?
Because a New Zealander would never call a kiwifrut a 'kiwi'. A Kiwi is the bird, or a New Zealander (either by birth or adoption, we don't mind). One or the other. But never a fruit.
what is the fruit called then?
ReplyDeleteI like the illustration.
Kiwifruit. As in, "Would you like some kiwifruit to put on the pav?"
ReplyDeleteDon't see why this couldn't have been drawn by a clever Kiwi (person) as the kiwi (bird) is the first drawing, and any clever Kiwi (person) would know the rest of the world called the fruit simply 'kiwi'. I like a good debate...
ReplyDeleteArrrgh! I've been eating kiwifruit all these years and calling myself a vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteThat is horrid! You New Zealanders should be cherishing and protecting your precious and unique fauna instead of allowing profit hungry fruit farmers to chop creatures up and convert them into kiwi fruit! Is your blog clock a slice of one such poor creature? Shame on you Katherine!
ReplyDeleteI will think twice when buying my kiwifruit forever now!
ReplyDeleteI liked the little razor! Made me grin.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. I really can't let Jinksy's comment stand unchallenged. The rest of the world does not call the kiwifruit a kiwi. I've never heard it called that by anyone in the UK where it is a very popular fruit - even up in the wilds of the Outer Hebrides.
ReplyDeleteUm... so do most people in places-other-than-New Zealand call them fruits 'kiwis'? Or 'kiwifruit'? Or what?
ReplyDeleteIn Canada, it is popularly known as 'kiwi', though we all know that it is also known as 'kiwifruit' we just never say that.
ReplyDeleteChinese Gooseberry, of course ;)
ReplyDeleteI call it 'kiwi', it's kinda obvious it's a fruit. Not like grapefruit that needs that nomenclature to distinguish the citrus from the vine.
