'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Mars morning

Real frost - water - on Mars.  August 14 2008.  It melts about 6 in the morning once the sun comes up.  This photo was taken by the Phoenix Mars lander.
What tickled my fancy was that scientists have poured over this image so hard, they have actually given the rocks names!  Isn't that cute?  The one in the foreground is 'Quadlings' and the one near the centre is 'Winkies'.

Don't ask me, how would I know?  The mind boggles.

And apparently they were able to record snow!! Imagine! Snow on Mars!!! It's quite incredible when you think that it used to be thought there was no water.

I hope they find the little green men soon. And I hope they don't turn out to be called Quadlings and Winkies.

  3. Winkies? I find it amusing that a bunch of highly trained, certainly very brainy scientists, named a rock Winkies. Of course, I guess if I'd had more of my coffee this morning, I'd wonder about them naming rocks at all!
