'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?'
'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Clay

Last week we made figurines.  We've been learning the basics of coiling, have made mugs and tiles, and now it's been time to make something more challenging.  I made this king and queen, and it's been odd but they've been 'talking' to me while sitting on my desk.
I know this:  The kingdom is in a bad shape, he is crabby with gout and easily persuaded by his wife, she is manipulative and scheming, and the commoners are not far off storming the castle with pitchforks...

When I made them, I'd no idea they would have so much to say.  How surprising!

  1. Wow - Very nice! Sounds like they have a good grasp of government today. ;) All is just not well in the kingdom.

    Your talent is widespread.

  2. Kath,
are you growing 'shrooms in that lovely garden of yours?

the pieces are attractive, is the motif local?

your post, as always, is a pleasure to peruse.

    thank you for sharing. :-)

  3. Thanks everyone.
    No, sUN, I'm not hearing things - it's all under control and metaphorical ;o}
The motif is made up by me: part cubist, part fairy-story and part Humpty-Dumpty nursery rhyme.
And yes, they are coiled and hollow, hopefully will not explode in the kiln, and I have made holes top and bottom to allow cords and fitting for light-bulbs to go onto the tops of their heads - now THAT should make them look like they're having good ideas!

  4. Hmmmmmmm I didn't know clay gave off 'those' kind of fumes!

  5. The object on the left looks like a pipe? is that the stalk of a pipe or is it shadow?? - if it is a pipe, remember you don't have to ruin your lungs - you can always take a pinch of snuff or chew a wad of tobacco - mind you an artist smoking a clay pipe has a certain rakkish charm except that it turns your teeth yellow (or cadmium yellow in the case of an artist).

  6. Debby - she does rather look like the 'off with her head!' queen from Alice in Wonderland...?

Clay pipe? Ah, the Magritte "This is not a pipe" pipe?

  8. I see the queen is moulding people to her will... Perhaps she took a tip or two from her creator?!

  9. Um, a one-eyed King?

  10. In the land of the blink, the one-eyed man is king.

  11. Well, 'Blind' makes more sense, in fact it's brilliant, but blink is quite nice too, a little ambiguous, but also to do with eyes ...
I think she came from Blink.

Yes Violet, he is unable to see any other point of view.

  12. You typing you had no idea they could have so much to say, makes me think of my daughter. For not having our words yet, she sure has a lot to say. She likes to sing too. Babies truly are blessings!
