'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

The River Rises

We've had a lot of rain over the last week.
I've posted about my river flooding before here.
It's interesting to see the changes in the river as I look over the bank from the back garden.

At this point the river is still tidal.
It pleases me to imagine that from my very own back garden I could jump in one of our kayaks and paddle all the way down the river, out through the estuary, past the port, slip through the gap between The Mount (Maunganui) and Matakana Island, and out to sea!  Why, I could even paddle all the way to Blogland!*

Last week: A storm is threatening - look at that weird greenish light.

Tipping it down

Sunshine this morning
*What a very linky post this turned out to be.

  1. I loved all these watery, lush and green photos, and jumping in a kayak sounds like a fun thing to do.

    1. Thanks Denise. I am determined to do more this summer & make up for the last one when I was 'resting playing the queen' with a broken ankle.

    1. Well I thank you Putz. Figured since it's how most people see me, I may as well. Used to look at people over the top of them, but now I need them not just for reading ...

  3. What a wonderful view to look out on; and how wise to be high up!

    1. This house is over a hundred years old and has seen a lot of changes. For a start, there was a bridge down there.

  4. I'm rather glad that I'm not actually canoeing in the river at that moment: I rather prefer quieter times. How did I miss your post last year on Blogland? It was just after I returned here but still... Rather odd.

    1. Blogland is the end of a very long story GB. You have to go back to the beginning, and it went on for quite a few weeks and got quite silly at one point. I'll tell you all about it over Aftermas...

    1. Carol - it was YP's map, not mine. It was a very surreal episode in my blogging life.

    1. Well, it was a guess really Denise. Which, turns out was wrong. Glad to see someone who REALLY knows has id'ed it. The raptors are amazing to see.
