'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

  1. Uncle? Why not Brother or even Father?

  2. I have seen these paintings - I think they are great abstract paintings of the New Zealand landscape.

Quentin MacFarlane who you post as a link was along with John Coley my art teachers at Christchurch Teachers College in the early 1970s. I think Ted Braceys paintings are the landscape equivalents of Quentin MacFarlanes Seascape paintings which I find particularly exquisite. Both took up the torch of abstract expressionism in the late 1960s being influenced by the Abstract Expressionism movement in Europe. Very interesting post Katherine - thankyou.

  4. Sorry Katherine. I didn't realise. Maybe it was from that direction that your own artistic talent emerged. Are/were your parents artistic too?

  5. Yes, Alden, both Q Mc and Ted had a way with landscape. Both absolutely spot on with colours.

YP. That's ok. My father was a very good photographer, and my mother had an excellent eye for detail in her painting, although she was a nurse and as you no doubt know, that doesn't leave much time or energy for much else.
