'I'm always looking for the Hows and the Whys and the Whats,' said Muskrat, 'That is why I speak as I do. You've heard of Muskrat's Much-in-Little, of course?' 'No,' said the child. 'What is it?'

Very good! I'll have to try that trick one day.
ReplyDeleteDo all men in NZ have to dress like that? Bush hat, black vest, khaki shorts and wellingtons? When I come over there will I be able to buy such an outfit in a men's clothing shop? Does Keith Woodley dress that way?
ReplyDeleteDD - it works every time!
ReplyDeleteYP. This is very common New Zealand country clothing. Many farmers and rural types wear it, but it is out of courtesy, mainly, to make men like yourself feel at home. You see, all visiting Yorkshiremen are REQUIRED BY NEW ZEALAND LAW to wear it for the duration of their stay, no matter how short or long. You can purchase the complete ensemble from any 'Carters' or 'Farmlands' store immediately upon arrival in the country.
PS, YP, They are 'Gumboots, not 'Wellingtons'.
ReplyDeletePhew! Thank heavens for that. As soon as I emerge from Auckland airport I will hail a taxi and head straight for the nearest Carters. Gumboots? I thought you people spoke English! Are there any other NZ words I should be aware of? I know that the word "sheila" can be used for either women or sheep and that a "haka" is a homosexual dance designed to intimidate heterosexual rugby teams from "overseas".
ReplyDeletevery good article thanks. We bought Bark Off online after we see the TV advertisement and I have to agree that it does work!! we just love it.
